The Mackie THUMP18Sv4 is an 18-inch powered professional PA subwoofer built to add dedicated low-frequency support to a live sound system. It is designed for DJs, performers, venues, presentations, houses of worship, and event setups that need more bass extension than full-range speakers alone can provide. By handling the low-frequency workload, it allows compatible top speakers to concentrate on midrange and high-frequency coverage.

An integrated 1400-watt peak Class-D amplifier powers the 18-inch woofer, eliminating the need for a separate external subwoofer amplifier. The THUMP18Sv4 is rated for a maximum peak SPL of 132 dB, with frequency response specified from 25 Hz to 160 Hz at -10 dB. Its 33 Hz to 160 Hz -3 dB response is suited to reinforcing kick drums, bass lines, playback music, and program material in portable PA applications.

Selectable high-pass modes help the subwoofer work with connected powered loudspeakers. Preset modes are provided for Mackie Thump12v4, Thump15v4, and Thump GO models, while Variable mode allows crossover adjustment from 80 Hz to 160 Hz for other compatible PA speakers. Each high-pass mode includes 1.4 ms of alignment delay for coordinated operation with connected top speakers.

Two balanced XLR inputs accept line-level signal from a mixer, DJ controller, or similar source. Two high-pass XLR outputs feed top speakers with the selected crossover behavior, while two full-range XLR outputs pass an unaltered signal for chaining another subwoofer. Stereo and mono-summing operation supports both single-subwoofer and multi-subwoofer system layouts.

The THUMP18Sv4 fits into a portable PA upgrade path where added low-end output and system flexibility are needed. Its M20 mounting thread accepts the optional Mackie SPM400 speaker pole for supporting a compatible top speaker above the cabinet. Integrated carry handles support transport, while the cabinet is intended for placement on a stable floor or stage rather than suspension or pole-mounting the subwoofer itself.

Design & Installation

The THUMP18Sv4 uses a rugged, modern portable cabinet design with built-in ergonomic carry handles for load-in and transport. Its Class-D amplifier uses convection cooling, and integrated peak/RMS limiting plus thermal protection help protect the transducer, power supply, and amplifier. Front, high-pass-mode, and signal/overload LEDs provide operating-status indication.

Place the subwoofer on a stable floor or stage, connect a balanced line-level source to the XLR inputs, and use the high-pass outputs for powered top speakers. Select the Thump 12, Thump 15, Thump GO, or Variable high-pass mode as appropriate; use the full-range outputs when chaining another subwoofer. The M20 thread can be used with the optional Mackie SPM400 speaker pole, but the subwoofer cabinet itself is not designed for suspension or pole mounting.
