The EMB Professional EMC920R is a wired large-diaphragm condenser microphone for recording vocals, instruments, broadcast work, and other XLR-based audio applications. Its cardioid pickup pattern emphasizes sound from the front of the microphone while reducing pickup from the sides and rear. This makes it a practical choice for creators building a focused recording setup around a voice, acoustic instrument, percussion source, or amplified instrument.

The microphone operates from 48 V phantom power supplied by a compatible audio interface, mixer, or microphone preamp. Its 3-pin XLR connection fits conventional professional recording chains and does not provide USB connectivity. An XLR cable and phantom-power-capable input device are needed for use.

The EMC920R has a specified 30 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and -38 dB sensitivity. Its published 135 dB maximum input SPL supports recording louder sources when gain is set appropriately. The specified 76 dB signal-to-noise ratio, 18 dB(A) equivalent noise level, and 140 dB dynamic range describe its stated noise and level-handling performance.

On-microphone adjustments include low-cut filtering, high-frequency adjustment, low-frequency adjustment, and sensitivity adjustment. These controls allow the microphone signal to be tailored at the source before it reaches a mixer, interface, or recording software. A power indicator light provides visual confirmation when phantom power is present.

The EMC920R fits naturally into a studio or content-creation system that already uses XLR microphones and external recording hardware. Use it with a stable microphone stand or boom, suitable monitoring, and recording software as required by the overall setup. The included shock mount and wind cover help prepare the microphone for typical vocal and instrument recording applications.

Key Features

  • Large-Diaphragm Condenser Capsule: Supports detailed capture of vocals and instruments.
  • Cardioid Pickup Pattern: Focuses on sound arriving from the front.
  • 48 V Phantom Power: Works with compatible mixers, preamps, and interfaces.
  • 30 Hz–20 kHz Response: Covers a broad recording frequency range.
  • On-Microphone Adjustments: Provides low-cut, frequency, and sensitivity control.
  • 135 dB Maximum SPL: Handles higher-level sources with correct gain staging.

Design & Installation

The EMC920R uses a zinc-alloy body and reinforced metal grille, finished in red. Its side-address large-diaphragm condenser construction includes a 3-pin XLR output and a power indicator light. The microphone is intended for wired use in conventional studio and broadcast-style audio systems.

Mount the microphone in its included shock mount on a compatible stand or boom arm, then connect it to a 48 V phantom-power-equipped interface, mixer, or microphone preamp using a 3-pin XLR cable. Aim the front of the cardioid capsule toward the desired source and use the included wind cover when appropriate. Set the microphone's low-cut, frequency, and sensitivity controls to suit the source before adjusting gain at the connected equipment.
