Arturia Keystep Controller & Sequencer, mk2-32 Key

The Arturia KeyStep mk2 is a compact 32-key USB MIDI controller and polyphonic step sequencer for musicians who work across software, MIDI hardware, and analog modular gear. It provides a single hands-on surface for playing parts, creating repeating patterns, and keeping connected instruments synchronized. Its slim format suits desktop studios, mobile production setups, and hardware-focused performance rigs.

A velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive Slimkey keyboard gives the KeyStep mk2 expressive control in a small footprint. Capacitive pitch-bend and modulation touch strips add performance control without requiring conventional wheels. Chord and Scale modes help users explore harmonic ideas while maintaining a playable keyboard workflow.

The onboard polyphonic sequencer stores up to 64 patterns, with up to 64 steps and eight notes per step. A 16-mode arpeggiator supports traditional note-order patterns alongside generative modes, while a user sequence mode can apply the last sequencer pattern to newly played notes. Mutate, Spice, and Dice functions provide real-time variation for developing phrases during writing or performance.

KeyStep mk2 is designed to bridge digital and analog instruments rather than functioning as a sound source itself. USB-C MIDI, full-size MIDI DIN input and output, Sync input and output, and four CV/Gate-related outputs allow it to communicate with computers, drum machines, synthesizers, and modular systems. Its CV pitch, gate, and modulation settings can be configured to suit a range of compatible analog equipment.

The controller includes an OLED display, clickable encoder, RGB LED feedback, transport controls, and a dedicated power switch for practical standalone use. It can be bus powered through USB-C and supports low-power operation with compatible mobile devices; an appropriate camera connection kit is required for iPad use. Analog Lab Intro and Ableton Live Lite are included as software bundle components, expanding the KeyStep mk2 into a computer-based production setup after registration.

Design & Installation

The KeyStep mk2 uses an ultra-slim controller format built around Arturia's 32-note Slimkey keybed. Its front panel combines dedicated performance controls with an OLED display, clickable encoder, touch strips, transport buttons, and RGB LED feedback. A hardware power switch and Kensington lock slot support practical desktop, studio, and stage use.

Connect the included USB-A to USB-C cable to a computer, compatible tablet setup, or suitable USB power source for power and USB MIDI. Use standard 5-pin MIDI cables for MIDI DIN devices, 3.5 mm TRS cables for Sync connections, and compatible patch cables for the CV, Gate, and modulation outputs. A sustain footswitch or continuous expression pedal can connect through the rear TRS pedal input; select the pedal type in the controller settings when needed.
