Arturia BEATSTEP PRO WHITE MIDI Controller & Sequencer

The Arturia BeatStep Pro White is a desktop MIDI controller and hardware sequencer for creating melodic patterns, drum parts, and synchronized performances without relying on a computer display. It combines two independent monophonic step sequencers with a dedicated 16-track drum sequencer in one compact control surface. It is suited to producers, performers, modular users, and musicians working with MIDI hardware or software instruments.

Sequencer 1 and Sequencer 2 can each create monophonic patterns of up to 64 steps, with pitch, velocity, and gate-time editing available for individual steps. The drum sequencer provides one track per pad for programming rhythm patterns by step entry or real-time recording. This structure supports separate bass, lead, percussion, and trigger duties from one unit.

The performance workflow centers on direct physical control. Sixteen touch-sensitive endless encoders, 16 illuminated step buttons, and 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads provide hands-on access to pattern programming and MIDI control. A touch strip provides Roller and Looper functions, while swing, randomness, and probability controls can vary patterns during playback.

BeatStep Pro is designed to bridge MIDI, USB, clock, and analog CV/Gate systems. Each melodic sequencer has Pitch CV, Velocity CV, and Gate outputs for compatible analog or modular instruments, while eight dedicated Drum Gate outputs can trigger external percussion voices. MIDI Control Center software allows deeper setup of controller mappings, MIDI behavior, synchronization, and CV/Gate parameters.

Its internal memory holds 16 Projects, each with 16 patterns for Sequencer 1, Sequencer 2, and the Drum sequencer. Every Project also stores a controller map and can contain 16 Scenes when Scene Mode is enabled. Included Ableton Live Lite and Analog Lab Intro provide software tools for recording, sound selection, and DAW-based use.

Design & Installation

The BEATSTEP PRO WHITE uses a compact white desktop enclosure with color-coded sequencer controls, illuminated step buttons, touch-sensitive encoders, responsive performance pads, and a built-in display for tempo and parameter values. Its 16.3 x 6.4 x 1.4-inch footprint is intended for placement beside synthesizers, drum machines, modular cases, or a computer workstation. A Kensington lock slot is included for physical security.

Connect the unit to a computer with USB for class-compliant MIDI and bus power, or power it from a 5V USB supply rated at least 500mA for standalone use. Use the supplied TRS-to-DIN adapters for MIDI In and Out, the supplied clock adapter for compatible DIN-sync equipment, and 3.5mm patch cables for CV, Gate, Drum Gate, and clock connections. Configure MIDI channels, clock behavior, controller assignments, and compatible CV/Gate settings in Arturia MIDI Control Center as needed.
