The Arturia MicroFreak Gooseneck Vocoder Microphone is a dedicated vocal-input accessory for the Arturia MicroFreak synthesizer. It gives MicroFreak owners a direct, integrated way to use the instrument's vocoder functions without adding a separate stand-mounted microphone. Its compact format keeps the microphone positioned at the synth for hands-on performance and sound design.

This accessory is intended for MicroFreak users who want to create voice-driven synth textures, robotic vocal effects, and vocoded melodic parts. The microphone connects directly to the MicroFreak's combined headphone and microphone port through its fitted base. A secondary headphone connection on the base keeps headphone monitoring available while the microphone is installed.

The MicroFreak vocoder processes the character and level of a voice while the synthesizer supplies the playable pitch and tone. The host instrument's 16-band vocoder engine can create articulate speech-like effects, sustained vocal pads, and more abstract filtered textures. MicroFreak mic settings provide gain adjustment to help match the input level to the performer and application.

A flexible gooseneck lets the microphone be placed close to the performer's mouth without obstructing the MicroFreak controls. The dedicated base aligns with the edges of the MicroFreak case for a stable fitted installation. This makes it suitable for desktop production, live electronic performance, and compact synthesizer setups.

The microphone is a focused upgrade path for compatible MicroFreak owners, rather than a standalone recording microphone. It is designed around the MicroFreak's 3.5 mm CTIA/AHJ TRRS headphone and microphone connection. Headphones are recommended for monitoring vocoder performance, since speaker playback can be picked up by the microphone and cause feedback.

Key Features

  • MicroFreak Compatibility: Designed specifically for use with the Arturia MicroFreak synthesizer.
  • 16-Band Vocoder Support: Enables vocal input for the MicroFreak's 16-band vocoder mode.
  • Flexible Gooseneck: Lets you position the microphone close to your voice.
  • TRRS Connection: Connects through the MicroFreak's combined 3.5 mm headphone and mic port.
  • Headphone Pass-Through: Retains a headphone connection at the microphone base for monitoring.
  • CTIA/AHJ Wiring: Uses the headset-style four-contact standard required by the MicroFreak.

Design & Installation

The assembly uses a flexible gooseneck microphone with a fitted black plastic adapter base. Its purpose-built form follows the MicroFreak chassis edges when installed, helping keep the microphone steady at the instrument. The microphone uses an electret-type capsule and is intended for close vocal use with the MicroFreak vocoder.

Insert the base into the MicroFreak's 3.5 mm TRRS headphone/microphone connection, align it with the case edges, and press gently into place. Connect headphones to the output at the microphone base when monitoring the vocoder. Remove the microphone by pulling straight outward, and remove it before transporting or storing the MicroFreak.
