KENWOOD CMOS-230LP1 Universal Rear View Camera Kit

The KENWOOD CMOS-230LP1 is a universal rear-view camera kit designed to add a dependable visual reference behind a vehicle. It combines the compact CMOS-230 camera with a license plate mounting kit for a clean rear installation. The camera connects to a compatible display or receiver with a composite video input.

This kit is suited to drivers upgrading an aftermarket multimedia receiver, video monitor, or other display that accepts a rear-camera video signal. Its mirror-image output is configured for rear-view use, helping the displayed view correspond with a vehicle’s mirrors. It should be used as a parking aid alongside normal visual checks of the area around the vehicle.

The camera uses a 1/3.6-inch color CMOS sensor with approximately 330,000 pixels and a wide-angle lens. Its approximately 128-degree horizontal and 103-degree vertical viewing angles provide coverage of the area immediately behind the vehicle. An electronic iris supports operation across a broad illumination range.

KENWOOD specifies a waterproof camera design and includes mounting hardware for practical exterior placement. The compact camera body can be used with its flexible camera bracket or with the supplied license plate mounting hardware. A long power/video connection harness supports routing from the rear of the vehicle to a compatible in-dash receiver or monitor.

The CMOS-230LP1 is a focused upgrade for vehicles without a rear camera or for systems being updated with a composite-video-capable display. It does not replace mirrors, direct observation, or careful maneuvering. For a complete installation, the receiving display must provide a compatible rear-camera or composite video input.

Design & Installation

The CMOS-230LP1 uses a compact camera housing measuring 23.4 x 23.4 x 23.9 mm, along with a weatherproof design for exterior use. KENWOOD does not publish a housing-material specification. The kit includes both camera-mounting hardware and a license plate mounting assembly to support different rear-placement approaches.

Connect the camera’s extension harness to a receiver or monitor with a composite rear-camera or external video input. The camera uses a 1.5 m camera cable and a 7.5 m power cable, with a 2A fuse specified in the connection diagram. Install the power connection on a switchable vehicle power source as directed in the manual, secure the ground to vehicle metal, and route all wiring away from moving, hot, or pinch-prone components.
